Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.At thirteen, I started mapping every public drinking fountain in Toronto. It began after a July bike ride ended with me pressing an empty bottle against a locked community-centre door. I assumed the city already knew where its fountains were. It didn't. I built a spreadsheet, rode 312 kilometres, and logged 147 fountains—along with the ones that were broken, hidden, or gone. The map drew a small following, but the messages changed what I thought the project was for. A delivery cyclist used it to plan his route. A mother told me which parks had fountains her son's wheelchair could reach. I had treated access as a data problem. They taught me to see the decisions inside the data: who gets counted, what gets maintained, and which inconvenience is dismissed as too small to fix.
